This disintegrated on the busted ass Honda wagon. The O’Reilly website said they carried the part but I couldn’t find it on the shelf. Luckily, the counter guy knew exactly what I was talking about and went and got one from the back. They disintegrate often enough that if they stock them on the shelf they just end up getting stolen.

I still have another part of a slightly different shape because they only come as an “assortment” pack.

I love it when the guy at the counter knows exactly what you are looking for.

Shame it almost never happens

Honda dealers usually have them in stock for about $3 each. One of those parts that they’ve used on every car for decades.

I told him “It looks kinda like a body clip but it’s for the brake pedal on a Honda” and he said “Yep, I have them in the back. I’ll go get one.” The most time consuming part of the transaction was walking time to/from wherever he had them stashed in backstock.

Dealers aren’t open on Sundays in Texas, but if they were I’d have gone there. I’m sure there’s a giant bin of these behind every Honda dealership parts counter.

I try to be that parts guy, its been happening more often than not lately. Also if you feel so good when that happens, imagine how the parts guy feels

Yep, I’ve replaced two of them in the past year...they usually go bad after 22-23 years and the car in question is a ‘93. It’s a lot worse when it happens on the clutch pedal than the brake pedal, because the car won’t crank.

20 years in Texas I guess. Ours is a ‘96.

O’Reilly has surprised me often enough now that I’m going to stop lumping them in with AZ and PB.

The eye opener was when they had an Oil filter for a 1985 ATC 350X in stock. It fits 3 machines all discontinued before 1990.

Replaced one on our ‘95 Odessey that we used as a work van at my last job. Except I didn’t go find the right part, I replaced it with a nut and bolt of roughly the same thickness. I don’t think it will be going anywhere.

Random question, but do you know what kind of internships is COTA looking for? Probably not engineers...
